This vintage Fowler Pottery “Langley Ware” bowl is a genuine, durable piece made wholly in Australia. Use as a serving bowl, dip bowl, small flower vase or as its original purpose as a sugar bowl.
The 1938 Fowler Ware Catalogue of Crockery Stoneware describes this style of pottery as “rich in depth of colour, so durable in service and a pleasing furnishing to any table. No wonder Fowler Langley Ware is so popular…”
A little more on the history of Fowler Ware in Marrickville (Sydney) fro the catalogue- “wide spread reputation for high quality ceramics is built on expeience of manufacturing for Australian requirements by skilled craftsmen. Furthermore, practically 98% of the raw material used in the Fowler Potteries are of Australian origin. Truly an Australian industry through and through”. Now that’s something!
The simple brown round bowl features a textured outer with a smooth glaze finish on the inside and at the top of the bowl. The backstamp reads “Fowler Marrickville 42”.
The bowl is in excellent condition.
